Jefferson 3rd and 4th graders are participating in the Cook Prize for STEM
Literature. During library classes, they are reading, discussing, and voting on
four nominated nonfiction books. Presented for the first time in 2012 by the
Center for Children’s Literature at Bank Street College in New York City, the
Cook Prize encourages excellence in publishing informational books on STEM
topics for elementary-aged children. The 2017 award was presented to Jefferson
parent and author, Emma Bland Smith, for her book Journey: Based on the True
Story of OR7, The Most Famous Wolf in the West. The 2018 winner
will be announced in May.
